Fortnite has become one of the most popular games in the world. Created by Epic Games, it was released Sept. 26, 2017.

Fortnite is a 100-player battle royale game that is completely free. There are in-game purchases available, but they are optional and do not offer any competitive advantage.

Willy Garcia, junior, said, “When I played it at first, I didn’t know what to think of it, but as I kept playing and playing, I enjoyed it even more.”

In the game, players jump out of a flying bus and drop down onto a massive island. You can play solo, duos, or four-man squads. From then on, players can collect wood, metal, and steel from their surroundings and search for weapons they can use to eliminate their opponents. They can then use those materials as cover or build forts. Matches range around 20 to 30 minutes.

It’s cartoon style and comedic dances also help make it as family friendly as can be. There’s no blood, no gore, and no nudity. It’s a family friendly game for all ages.

Despite being free to play, Epic Games has made a huge profit on it with their cosmetic in-game purchases. According to Forbes.com, Fortnite generates around $130 million monthly.

Fortnite is currently the most discussed video game in the world right now, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to die out soon.

“I’m not really addicted to the game, but I play around a couple hours a day,” said Robert Juarez, a junior at CI.
