The American Dream
El sueño de una mejor vida
Dream of having a better life
Where you don’t limit yourself to what’s not permitted
Donde no hay “no se puede pero hay si se puede y si se va hacer”
Where there isn’t a “I can’t do it but there is I can do it and it will happen”
Crossing rivers that can get you into trouble
They love to judge our skin of color
Our color that is a symbol of colonization
War and pride

But oh how they love to get spray tans
Why judge if we come from the same planet?
They look at us and talk to us like aliens
But they eat the food we pick up
The food our hands harvest
Why bite the hands that feed you?
The American Dream
To get there you have to carry the negative
Para llegar a lo positivo
To get to the positive
Where you have to make border sacrifices to be invincible
I am from two lands: the American land and the Mexican land
They sound similar
But we focus on the differences
We walk in the land of God
And we preach peace
But would God call his people “illegal aliens”?
This isn’t about religion or about whose side you’re on
It’s about basic human decency
This isn’t the 1950’s anymore
So stop acting like it
