Ivey dominates on the basketball court

For this edition of Channel Islands Athlete Spotlight we’re covering varsity basketball star, Nazir Ivey! The 5 ’11 combo guard is having a great start to his season, he’s had some impressive showings and most recently in a rivalry game against Hueneme, finished with 20 points and 6 steals.

Nazir or better known by his nicknames, “Naz,” and “Cinco” is in his second year on varsity as a sophomore. Naz goes on to explain  how he felt on his recent performance, and the play of the team, “I’m glad we got the wins, and I’m glad to be leading my guys.” He later added, “Just trying to win the league.”

When the confident young leader was asked about his areas to which he can improve, he responded straightforwardly saying, “Being more vocal on the court, [and] being a more vocal leader for the team.” A future leader in the making.

Now that the season is in full swing and the league has begun, we asked Naz on his goals for the season and he confidently responded saying, “To make all county and all league, as well as team MVP.” Although these are big dreams for a young man, he is definitely more than capable of these goals.

We ended our interview by asking Naz how he felt this year, being his second year on varsity. “Thankful and grateful for all the opportunities” he said, “Thankful for the trust my coaches and teammates put on me.”
