Recently a new, free-to-play battle royale game has entered the scene, and it has undoubtedly surpassed expectations.

In just the first three days since its release, Apex Legends has captivated an astonishing 10 million players, making it the most popular game in recent times.

In that span of 72 hours, the game was and still is the most viewed game on the most popular game streaming site, Twitch.tv. It pulls in hundreds of thousands of viewers at a time, with many more playing the game itself.

In terms of the battle royale genre as a whole, some games gain popularity; however, they eventually lose their attraction and a majority of their player base.

But Apex Legends has successfully been gathering more players, due to their initial involvement of the most popular streamers on Twitch, including the most popular Fortnite streamers.

Thus, the audience of streamers has impacted the increasing player base, as well as the game being free on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, which makes it comparable to Fortnite.

On the other hand, the mechanics and nature of the both Apex Legends and Fortnite are not comparable. While Fortnite focuses on the concept of building, Apex Legends integrates the use of unique characters and their special abilities.

Each of the eight characters possess three unique abilities with a passive, tactical and ultimate ability which makes them special, allowing for players with different playstyles to enjoy the game. Some players thrive when they play certain classes, such as an offensive character, a defensive character, a support character, or a recon character.

Additionally, some compare Apex Legends to a combination of Overwatch and Call of Duty: Blackout due to the class system in play, as well as the speed of the game.

The looting mechanics and healing system of Apex Legends is fast-paced, which allows the server of 60 players to immediately get into the fray of battle.

As long as the game continues to add more characters, weapons, and mechanics, the quick and interesting gameplay will consistently captivate new players which will allow it to become the most popular battle royale game for years to come.
