Junior year is possibly one of the most challenging years for many Raiders, from taking the SAT/ACT to drafting personal insight responses

This year juniors will be granted the opportunity to take a free SAT exam, expanding opportunities for future college freshmen and to those who may not have thought of pursuing a secondary education.

The test will be taking place on Wednesday, March 7, giving the opportunity to our junior class to send their scores to any university of their choice.

This is the first time that the Oxnard Union High School District has done this, and many Raiders are happy for this chance.

Teachers and counselors are very happy that students will be able to take the test without any financial obstacles.

Ms. Griselda Sanchez, Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) coordinator, feels that this is a huge step for our district.

“This has been a good move to help our students in furthering their education,” Ms. Sanchez said.

Ms. Sanchez believes that this will facilitate the lives of many students and their families because they no longer need to endure the long registration process and potentially miss a deadline.

The EAOP coordinator emphasized the need for juniors to study extensively for the exam.

“Create a plan, schedule hours for practice, but most importantly, stay committed,” said Ms. Sanchez.

Many juniors feel fortunate for the opportunity to take a test that is required for most college applications.

Denise Erazo, junior, is grateful that she won’t have to worry about the cost of the exam, obtaining more preparation for the second time she takes the SAT.

“I’m going to prepare myself as much as possible and make sure I exceed on such an important test,” Erazo said.

Students receiving free/reduce lunch can still receive fee waivers to take both the SAT and ACT twice for free. The next SAT exam is on May 5. March 7 is a regular day for all other students not taking the SAT.
