Goals for new school year

By Jocelyn Herrera

Surprisingly, my state of mind this year is quite tranquil. Unlike my previous years of hassle and work, this year has been a smooth ride (so far). As I begin to think about my future, I realize that I should be a bit concerned about my serene vibe. I hope I will still be able to feel at peace while taking care of business.

This year I am looking forward to all the extracurricular activities I have joined and creating relationships with new people. Thus far, I am involved in Science Club, which I am publicist for, ASB, and the reputable Isle File. Putting myself in a position where I am forced to be social has turned out to be a good thing and I hope I can apply this experience in the future.

My main goals this year are to meet new people and prepare myself for college. Most of my life I have kept a close circle; however, I believe now is the time to step out of my shell and give new faces a chance. As for college, I really need to apply myself so that I feel fully set when I go off to college next fall.

I am very excited for this school year, but it will be bittersweet. I am looking forward to meeting my new teachers and meeting new friends. The thing I am most excited about this school year is graduating and making my family proud. However, I am also sad because some of my friends will be going off to colleges, while I study in Oxnard. I hope we will stay in contact because I might not see them for a long time.

One of my goals this school year is to get good grades and a better grade point average. I am determined to study more and pass all my tests with at least a B average. I also want to improve my drawing skills in my art class. My second goal is to learn how to drive and get my driver’s license. Overall, I want to have an awesome and fun school year.

My state of mind as I headed back to school this year was bracing myself for the worst. I’m only joking. I was anxious and I wanted to start the year on a good note. I get really nervous when it’s a new school year because I never know what to expect; it all kind of just hits you by surprise. It’s very stressful keeping up with excellent grades and doing homework, and sometimes you miss lunch because you have to retake tests or get tutoring.

Putting that aside I’m looking forward to visiting Disneyland during Christmas time in December, through means of the Business and Finance Academy. My goals are to have good grades and from there to just enjoy my junior year. Junior year is the year you realize that your free education is almost over and that you’ll have to make decisions that will benefit you after high school. This year is different from other years because I’m feeling the tension of almost being a senior and that scares me a little. I’m worried about things like universities, scholarships and loans. But all in all I’m going to work hard and make this school year count!

This year my state of mind would be very determined. I always want to get my work done, but I never have the energy or encouragement to do it. I am lazy most of the time, which is something I really want to change this year. I need to motivate myself to get my work done when it needs to, instead of making excuses as to why I can’t do it.

I am looking forward to learning new things in my classes and getting more involved with school functions. I don’t think my classes are boring, so being able to pay attention is easy for me. This year I joined ASB so I am excited to be able to help out at a lot more school events than I usually did. I like being involved and knowing what’s going on, so I’m heading in the right direction.

My goals this year are to pass all my classes with A’s and B’s, to be more punctual, and to procrastinate less or not at all. My grades have been good my last two years of school, however it’s only when I get lazy that I stop doing my work and my grades are affected. I have always had a problem being late to school or just late to places in general. In order to avoid this, I’ve been working on getting up earlier and getting ready faster to get to school on time. I have a problem of procrastinating for everything. In order to be organized and not so stressed out I need to get my work done early or right when I know I have an assignment.
