Raiders rock back-to-school fashion

School is a place of learning, but for some it’s also a fashion show.

Martin Aguilar, a junior, says, “It (dressing up) is a daily thing. It shows who I am.” He and others go by the same or a similar motto.

Just like a real fashion show, there are always new trends coming onto the scene. This year it happens to be grunge fashion. Grunge fashion originated in the late 1980s when Kurt Cobain, the front man of Nirvana, paved the way for the grunge movement. After his death in 1994 grunge died with him. Now, in 2014, grunge has revived. More and more people are seen wearing Doc Martens (“docs”), chokers, and flannels. Katrina Swanson, a sophomore, even says that the grunge fashion inspires her outfits.

Even though grunge is the new trend not everyone is following it. Some people, like friends David Barajas (senior) and Luis Galindo (senior), get their inspiration from male model Chris John Millington, who has more of a sophisticated, classic look.

Some people don’t really have any fashion inspirations or icons. They just see random pieces of clothing or outfits they like and they get inspired, just like Martin Aguilar, a junior. There are so many places to get inspiration from and so many people to be inspired by. Itzel Hurtado (senior) gets her outfit ideas from Mazzy Star front woman Hope Sandoval. Her style is edgy but girly.

Having lots of options of stores to choose from can be so overwhelming. But some of the more popular stores are H&M, Forever 21, Pac-Sun, and Cotton-On. Then, there is also a not so popular app that some seem to be shopping from: Plender. Of course there are so many other places too.

Even though some people shop at the same places they all seem to have different inspirations and different styles. Everyone has their own little flare that they add to their outfits. The number one thing people should be wearing is confidence.
