As I am pulling into the driveway of the new restaurants and apartment buildings by the Collection, I can already see from the outside: the bustling atmosphere of the first and only Shake Shack in Oxnard.
I walk into the restaurant without having any opinion on the restaurant prior, as it is my first time being in a Shake Shack, and see that all the seats are full of hungry people. My first thought was, “The food must be very good.”
With high expectations, my friends and I buy different things to try on the menu. Through a kiosk we ordered a ShackBurger, Avocado Bacon Burger, Chicken Shack, and French Fries. In their classic ShackBurger—at the cost of $7.99—comes the buns, beef patty, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and their own specialty Shake Sauce. The soft buttered bread and patty melts right into your mouth and leaves a lingering unique savory aftertaste. Nothing in this burger is overpowering and it feels as if you get enough of every ingredient.
The Avocado Bacon Burger is quite basically the same as the ShackBurger but instead of lettuce and tomato, you get avocado and bacon. It is more on the pricey end, costing $10.99. In this particular burger you get a good chunk of the avocado. I personally love avocado, but if you prefer it to be light I wouldn’t recommend getting this burger. Otherwise, it is a great avocado burger with the side of beef and bacon.
Inside the Chicken Shack is chicken breast over lettuce, pickles, and buttermilk mayo. This sandwich goes for $9.49. In this tasty sandwich, every bite is crunchy with its crispy batter-fried chicken and lettuce. Like the ShackBurger, there is no overwhelming taste but you still get the taste of everything at once. I do believe that the chicken could use a little more flavor, but overall it was a pretty standard chicken sandwich.
Finally, you can’t forget about the most important part of a fast food meal; the french fries. I had a taste of one of the four fries you can get from Shake Shack, the Black Parmesan Truffle Fries, which cost $5.99. They are regular fries sprinkled with parmesan cheese, and are served with a black truffle sauce that holds a strong catching flavor. The fries themselves aren’t as crispy as I expected but are more on the soft side. Additionally, the parmesan cheese gives it a savory spark to it.
Without further analysis, I would say that Shake Shack is definitely a place worth trying. Despite being on the more expensive side of the fast food chain, its food is something that is worth giving a taste. Its modernized and minimal appearance is definitely reflected in the food in a way that it is unique and different from other restaurants. Overall, I would give this place and its food a 8/10 and I would come and enjoy another meal here in the future.
