The 2024‑2025 basketball season at Channel Islands High School was one for the books. Although the year started off rough, the Raiders transformed their challenges into a memorable journey that truly showcased their resilience and unity under Coach Eddie Ramos’s leadership.
The team dominated the Citrus Coast League with an impressive 11‑0 record, a feat that captured the attention of students, staff, and fans alike. Their fast breaks, relentless defense, and unselfish play quickly turned them into one of the most exciting teams in the area.
Reflecting on his personal experience, JD Pettit of the varsity said, “I liked just being a part of the team. Adapting to the team and feeling welcomed after transferring in was great. The feeling of winning the league and making the playoffs is unmatched.”
As the season progressed, the Raiders carried their momentum into the playoffs. On Feb. 5, the team faced Santa Paula High School in a must‑win game. Every player stepped up, and the Raiders secured a solid 69‑55 victory thanks to their poise and determination.
This momentum continued in their next match against Vasquez High School on Feb. 13, winning 75-68 in the first round of CIF.
One of the varsity’s leading scorers, Nazir Ivey, expressed his enthusiasm about the overall team effort. “Something I really liked about this year’s team is I feel like we were all locked in,” he said. “Especially the big games, we knew we had to do whatever it took to win and I feel like also our coaches prepared us well through the whole season with the different drills and game plans, which helped us succeed with a great record and win league, leading us to go to the playoffs. Overall, we had a good year and through ups and down we stuck together and did what we had to do!”
Despite their relentless drive, the Raiders ultimately fell short in the CIF-Southern Section playoffs. After winning a first round game, CI lost to Workman High School. The final game was a tough battle, but the losses did not overshadow the season’s achievements. The spirit, dedication, and teamwork displayed all season long left an indelible mark on everyone involved.
In a bittersweet turn to the season’s narrative, Coach Ramos announced his decision to step down. After spending 10 years as a coach at Channel Islands, he believed his time on the sidelines had come to a close.
He leaves behind a legacy of passion and commitment. He offered some parting words that encapsulated the ethos of his career: “Hard work pays off. I know it sounds cliché, but it’s true.”
The 2024‑2025 season will be remembered not only for the victories and the unforgettable moments on the court but also for the lasting impact of a coach who inspired his players both on and off the court.
