Winter hoops kick off
Winter Sports are coming! The question we are wondering is if our Raider athletes are ready for this 2022-2023 season and the switch to the Citrus Coast League this year.
Shaun Holmes, a senior on the boys’ basketball team here at CIHS, says, “I feel good about this season. We have a good chance of doing good this year.”
He also adds, “Since we dropped down a division, we are probably going to have a better record. We are going to be above .500, so we will definitely be making the playoffs.”
Head coach Eddie Ramos feels optimistic about this season. “We have a great group of returners who have just gotten better in the off-season,” he said.
When asked about boys basketball dropping down to CCL (Citrus Coast League), he says: “The CCL is equally competitive so if we stay healthy and focused, we could very possibly make a strong playoff run.”
The teams they will be facing are Nordhoff, Santa Paula, Fillmore, and our long-time rival, Hueneme.
Boys basketball is hoping for a successful season after going 4-18 last year in the Pacific View League (PVL). The girst league here at CI will be on Dec. 7 against Fillmore.
Girls basketball is also preparing for the exciting season and looking to make a playoff spot.
Senior Valeria Pacheco, wants to make something happen this year, considering it is her last year.
“It makes me very emotional because I don’t plan on playing afterwards and I’ve been playing basketball for a very long time,” she said.
Head coach Tiara Umu hopes to see her squad improve on last year’s 2-11 record. Their first home game is Dec. 6.
