Senior year is the time to make it happen. It’s the last chance to do your best and make your mark.

Angel Ayala is making the most of his senior year with his team, and is leaving lasting impressions here at the Islands.

Ayala is a center midfielder for boys’ soccer and captain of the team.

“Angel is a hard-working, driven young man,” says Coach Adrian Garcia.

“He leads by example, not only on the field but he is admirable in the classroom as well. He is a true scholar athlete.”

Ayala spends a lot of time on the field and is dedicated to the sport, but he doesn’t neglect his schoolwork. Ayala has accumulated a 3.65 GPA while balancing soccer, MECHA, and Upward Bound.

Ayala plays with his brother, Diego Ayala, and the chemistry between the two radiates an interesting dynamic.

“Playing soccer with Diego is all right,” said Ayala with a laugh and a smile. “Sometimes we butt heads during practice, but during games we’re on the same level.”

Ayala has been playing soccer since he was six years old, and through it all he has had endless support.

“I’m most thankful for my teammates who motivate me to be my best in everything,” says Ayala. Aside from his friends, Ayala’s parents are his greatest supporters.

“My dad goes to every game. He’s hard on me but he makes me play better,” says Ayala. “My mom usually has to work, but she’s always there for me in any way she can be. I am truly thankful.”

Ayala is admired by his friends, family, teammates, and coach. “He has great leadership qualities, he’s going to leave a good impression on the CI program,” says Garcia. “He makes me proud, and his parents proud. I look forward to hearing about his success in the future.”
