Resolutions for 2014

“New year, new me” is a common thing people will say once the new year is in full swing.

2013 is nearly over and that means people are going to start thinking about their New Year’s Resolutions. Some of the most common ones are to eat healthier and lose weight/get fit, save money, become more organized, learn something new, and volunteer. People almost too often try to make an extremely long to do list of things they would like to change about themselves.

I suggest only choosing one and something you will be able to stay committed to. Saying you will lose weight by eating 100 percent clean, running, and going to the gym every day is a bit unrealistic, especially if you aren’t used to doing much physical activity. Instead, try making gradual changes to your life but make sure you are setting specific goals. Something like “I will limit the amount of junk food I eat” or “I will put $1 in this jar every day.” In the end, it all the little things will add up.

The whole “new year, new me” thing won’t be successful if you aren’t committed to what you’re trying to achieve whether it be shedding a few extra pounds, saving money, or trying to become more organized. Studies show that only 8 percent  are usually successful with their resolutions every year. Many people start off strong in the beginning, but eventually forget what they’re working towards.

Remember to start small, stick to one goal, and be patient with yourself. So, what will your resolution be for 2014?
