This year, Channel Islands High School made history and plenty of noise on the national spirit scene. With show-stopping routines, dedicated athletes, and unforgettable victories, CIHS squads proved that hard work and heart pay off.
Cheerleading: A Historic First National Title
The Channel Islands Cheer Team stunned the crowd and brought home a national championship title for the first time ever. Competing in the Varsity Show Cheer Novice Non-Tumbling Large division at the USA Spirit Nationals, the squad delivered a powerful, high-energy routine that wowed judges and fans alike.
“It was such a surreal feeling; it was definitely my best memory,” shared senior captain Joselyn Vazquez, beaming with pride.
Coach Brianna described the moment: “It was so heartwarming, seeing the girls’ faces when they won. They put sweat and tears into two minutes to prove who they are, and they killed it. It reminded me of the reason I do this.”
Dance: Continuing a Championship Legacy
The Channel Islands Dance Team once again solidified its reputation as a powerhouse, earning first place in the Dance/Drill category at WCE Nationals. Their flawless execution, sharp technique, and unmatched teamwork have earned them national titles for multiple years running, a streak that continues thanks to their relentless drive.
Led by hardworking captains, all-female’s Sophia Vea and all-male’s AngeloJann Apalisok. The team trains day and night, pushing themselves to new levels of excellence. “I would describe my experience with dance as very fun. It’s like my creative outlet and something I’m extremely passionate about,” said Vivian Alcantar, a proud three-year member.\
Song Pom: Strong, Spirited, and on Top
Channel Islands’ Song Team also claimed the national crown in the Varsity Song/Pom Novice Large division at the USA Spirit Nationals. With dazzling formations and high-energy pom work, they lit up the floor and made their mark as champions.
Banners: Big Wins in a Breakout Year
In just its debut year, the CIHS Banners Team turned heads and earned the title of National Champions in JV Military at WCE Nationals. What started as a brand-new program quickly became a school favorite, bringing a fresh wave of spirit and pride across campus.
Short Flags: Dominating the Field
Short Flags brought home yet another national title this season. The squad continues to raise the bar with synchronized precision and fierce commitment.
From first-time wins to long-standing dynasties, Channel Islands squads are setting the standard and stage for future champions. One thing’s for sure, the spirit of the Raiders has never burned brighter.
