Turning 18

The year 2023 is a huge year for students born in the year 2005 because we’re turning 18!

While this is a significant milestone, many have mixed emotions about this. It marks the transition from childhood to adulthood, as you’re entering a new stage of life that also brings along more responsibilities and expectations. It is a time of change and uncertainty which can be scary to some.

Many are leaving high school and starting college or perhaps getting jobs. Several will be moving away from home and starting to live on their own. It is a time of growth and self-discovery, a chance to explore new interests, meet new people, and create a new path in life.

“I’m really excited to vote and work on my credit score,” says senior Alexa Salazar who will be turning 18 this year on July 22nd.

This newfound freedom can be both exhilarating and overwhelming. It is an exciting time: You can now buy lottery tickets, open a bank account, get married without parental consent –,  heck, even buy a house – and the list goes on.

Another exciting aspect of turning 18 is that you can now register to vote and have a say in how your country is run. You can also run for public office yourself and make a difference in your community. Additionally, you can legally buy and consume alcohol in some countries, although it is important to do so responsibly.

Overall, turning 18 is a time of growth and new beginnings, where you can start to take charge of your life and make your own decisions.

Although legally we may be seen as adults it is important to still have fun and celebrate our youth as we’re only going to be 18 once.
