End of an Affordable Era

All things come and go in our lifetime. Friends, family, and yes, even grocery stores. Everyone and their grandmothers know what Fresh and Easy is. It was a cheap line of grocery stores that sold their own brand of products as well as ordinary things such as chips or soda. It was founded in January 2007 in the United Kingdom, but later bought by Yucaipa Companies and began its chain of grocery stores in the U.S. on November 2007. The wonderful thing people loved about Fresh and Easy in particular was its locations.

It was always in places that were people could easily find it and walk to it. What really makes it special to the people of Channel Islands was it was right across the school, making it a prime stop for those collaborations days. However, an unfortunate turn of events transpired on Oct. 30. Fresh and Easy had gone bankrupt. It was a real shock to many people that such a successful business was kicking the bucket. Finally, on Nov. 13, all Fresh and Easy stores were closed down for good, ending an era of grocery store chains.

It was a sad day finding out it was dying since I myself went there constantly, for I lived very close to it, making it very convenient for me to go grocery shopping. In particular, I would venture there for water and their meat. Now that its glory days are over, I’m probably going to have to go all the way to Ralphs or something far away for my sandwich cravings. Nothing will ever be quite the same without their sandwiches, right? To each their own I guess.

The question I’m sure everyone has on their minds is, “What is it going to be now?” Since Fresh and Easy wasn’t that big, it’s not tough to imagine it will become another grocery store. Perhaps we’ll get a Tesco?  What do you think it will be? The possibilities are endless.
