ASB officers Deanna Lara, Vernadette Laderas, Sebastian Magaña, Natalie Herrera, and Angeline Cesar ready for the new year.

Spirit, creativity, friendships and leaders. That is what we think of when we hear the word ASB.

Under the advisory of Mr. Brett Zielsdorf ( Mr. Z), the people in ASB are in charge of showing spirit and organizing many of the school’s activities. ASB represents the interests and goals of Channel Islands. They are a group of many dedicated people (made up of students from all ages, sports and clubs) brought together by similar interests who strive to better the school.

Next year’s ASB President, Vernadette Anne Laderas, says, “ASB is like a puzzle. Each person represents a piece that comes in his/her own unique shape and size, and once the pieces come together we create a masterpiece.”

The hard-working people in ASB are dedicated when assembling and making rallies come to life throughout the year. Making posters, painting cardboard cutouts, creating themes, and making other decorations is how many people spend their time after school.

Alejandra Jimenez, senior class treasurer, says, “I love when we have rallies coming up because everyone is working together and it shows how comfortable we are with each other.”

The members in ASB sacrifice much of their time to bring together the school and the community. More popular events include Glow Dance, Homecoming, and Prom.

“My favorite thing about ASB is seeing the outcome of the events and activities we plan for our school and community,” says Armando Piña, the senior class president. “Reactions are always priceless.”

For the year of 2017-2018 there is a new group of people who are taking the opportunity to lead the school and their classes to the best they can. Each class  has its own set of class officers and commissioners.

The respective roles of an officer are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Publicist.  For the position of a commissioner, there are many roles to be filled, such as Homecoming commissioner or Renaissance Commissioner. Each class may be divided and have their own officers, but there are “overall officers.” Overall officers are the one who run all of ASB and address everyone, not just their class.

Many of the officers claim that ASB is an experience they’ll never forget. With the chance to join as an incoming freshmen, you get to meet many convivial students and build friendships that will last a lifetime with “ASBabes.” Many are glad they joined ASB and are looking forward to next year.

Angeline Cesar, the ASB Vice President, says she joined ASB in order to “become a new person and finally get out of her comfort zone.” Many have joined for the same reason: ASB is a place to desist from being an introvert.

Without a doubt, everyone is looking forward to next year. All the ASB officers have an idea of what they plan to accomplish. Laderas says, “I want to be remembered for having faith in the impossible. It is my goal to prove that if you can dream it, you can do it!”
