Many people have this theory that if you’re short you won’t be good at many sports, or at least people won’t take you as serious. However, this isn’t the case for our very own freshman Sebastian Flores.                                                                                                                                                                                              Sebastian may be 4’11 and weighs 76 pounds but do not underestimate him. For those of you who don’t know who Sebastian is or what he does well, he’s a boxer.

Flores practices three hours every day except on Sundays. When he’s not practicing at home, he can be found at a gym called Core Athletics.  He doesn’t really have a daily routine because they change it up from time to time.                                                                                                                                                                                           On Tuesdays and Thursdays he spars. His coach takes him either to the Malibu sand hill or to a stadium to run. With that said, Flores has won 12 out of 13 matches in The Adidas National Tournament.

It all started when he was seven years old. His dad wanted him to box so he could gain self-confidence and learn self-defense.

What motivates Sebastian to keep on boxing is his dad. “I don’t want to work in a job like he does.’’  Flores said.

One person that he looks up to is Oscar de la hoya, why? Because he’s a boxer and has won the Olympics.

One of his hardest struggles is when his coach yells at him when he doesn’t do something right “it gets me mad but I keep on going until I get it right” said Sebastian , he also said that lately he’s been really clumsy and falls too much ,  maybe he’s growing or he might actually just be clumsy.

On February 7th Sebastian went to Kansas City, Missouri for a tournament that he had. He only had one match and it appeared that he won! He won the silver gloves.

“Never give up” is what Sebastian always has in mind.
